During April, Costa Oriental participated in CeMAT Hannover the main logistics fair in Europe and one of the most important worldwide, which takes place every four years.

During the visit it was possible to identify the main advancements in technology, innovation trends and to be in touch with  international logistics best practices.

In this aspect the following points stand out:

  • Sustainability: just like in other industries, the logistics sector is moving towards energy sustainability.  In this sense, it is important to merge towards a new type of lithium battery, which allows greater power delivery and reduces recharge times. On the other hand, combustion engines have strong competition from electric motors and hydrogen engines.
  • Automation: the use of robots in the logistics sector is a reality. The the use of articulated arms in tasks of a repetitive nature offers greater flexibility and cost reductions. Also, autonomous equipment for the movement of materials are commonplace and range from forklifts of 2.5 tons to small robots that assist pickers.
  • Virtualization: a novel aspect that accompanies the use of robots is the growth of virtual reality tools for different uses: training for the management of equipment, simulation of high-risk operations or systematization of movements that can be replicated by robots.

Costa Oriental is currently analyzing different alternatives to improve the intensive picking operations and the preparation of merchandise prior to departure.
