“Uruguay has to be at the center of e-commerce,” stated Juan Opertti, Director of Costa Oriental and expert in logistics and free zones, , after participating in the World Congress of Free Zones held in Dubai.

In this sense, the expert challenges to rethink the role of free trade zones since companies require less and less inventory, more speed of distribution and greater added value in logistics. Therefore, it is necessary to rethink the logistic model of free zones and their regulatory framework, in order to allow the retail distribution of  merchandise.

, Opertti also emphasized the need to have certified logistics chains under the figure of Authorized Economic Operator of the World Trade Organization, which brings with it a reduction in costs and allows companies to be more competitive internationally.
