Once again, Uruguay stands out at the global level, ranking among the top Latin American countries in key indicators of several recently published rankings.

  • Inclusive Development Index 2017 – World Economic Forum
    The index measures the performance of 109 countries, based on 12 indicators grouped into three pillars: Growth and Development, Inclusion, Intergenerational Equity and Sustainability.Uruguay is the highest ranked Latin American country and ranked sixth in the world within developing economies, with special emphasis in average income, growth and development, per capita income and life expectancy.

  • Freedom Index 2017 – Freedom House
    Uruguay ranked among the top 10 countries with highest levels of freedom across the globe.According to the report, the consolidated democracies of the world suffered in 2016 a setback in freedom due to the rise of populism and nationalism. For its part, Uruguay has the highest score in the ranking of freedom, political rights and civil liberties in Latin America.

     

  • Democracy Index 2016 – The Economist
    The Economist magazine places Uruguay among the 20 complete democracies worldwide,standing out as the first and only one in Latin America.

     

  • Corruption Perceptions Index 2016 – Transparency International
    The index, which evaluates 176 countries, places Uruguay as the least corrupt country in Latin America, ranking 21st in the world.

     

  • Prosperity Index 2016 – Legatum Institute
    Uruguay was among a select list of nations that managed to realize improvements in the quality of life of its inhabitants. The country obtained the best score, with positive ratings in most of the sub-indexes considered for ranking.
  • Quality of Living Index 2016 – Mercer
    The study that evaluates the quality of living of 230 cities in the world based on its social and political environment, economic environment and socio-cultural environment, placed Montevideo as the best metropolis in Latin America.
  • Global Peace Index 2016 – Institute for Economics and Peace
    According to this organization, there are only 10 countries free of conflict and one of them is Uruguay, which is placed #2 in South America and #35 among the 163 countries analyzed.
